What an AMAZING race day we had! We were so proud of all the children, and they loved taking part in the different races. Well done to the adults that joined in as well!

We LOVED taking part in Disco Dodgeball on Monday as part of sports week. We played loads of games all to music and flashing lights.

The team from Sainburys came to visit to teach us how to be safe around lorrys. We learned not to walk or ride bikes near the tailgate, and how driver's blindspots mean we can't always be seen by the side of the truck. We also got to ask lots of questions about how food gets from the farms and factories to the supermarkets.

The class enjoyed a brilliant visit to Cannon Hall Farm. They saw lots of farm animals and learned so much towards our Field to Farm topic. They haven't stopped talking about it since!

We were lucky enough to be able to test our balance on some balance bikes on a balance bike obstacle course! Even those of us who can ride normal bikes without stabilisers found it a challenge. At the end we had a balance bike race.

We had a great time in the orchard looking at the changes Spring is bringing. One of the most exciting things we found was that the pond was FULL of frog spawn! We spoke about the life cycle of a frog, and watched some adult frogs swimming around. We can't wait to return and see if we can find any frog spawn!

This half term in PE we have been learning about dance. We first watched some ice skating, and realised how gracefully and fluidly they move and tried to incorperate this in a solo dance routine to the song "Bolero".
Following on from wintery ice skating, we then began to think about April showers in Spring, and created a sycronised duet to Singing in the Rain.
Finally we reached summer. We were so excited to pretend to be waves - rolling slowly forward, building up and then breaking and crshing back down to the floor. Once we had worked on our wave move, we then worked in pairs again, this time focussing on moving in cannon to one another.

During World Book Week our class looked at the author Beatrix Potter. We read and listened to lots of stories, created chartacter profiles and even created our own alternative endings.
On the Friday, we went to share our work with Miss Frampton's class - who were also learning about Beatrix Potter. We had a great time with the Year 3's and would love to share more work with them in the future.

On World Book Day, Year 1 were very lucky to be visted by children's author Damian Harvey! We did a great workshop, where he explained all the different stages of physically making a book, read out some of his stories and even scared us with a spider!

Within both Year 1 classes we have introduced "Rainbow Challenge". Throughout the week there are 7 indoor challenges, as well as a selection of outdoor challenges to complete - once completed the children are rewarded with the corresponding coloured lollipop stick to place within their rainbow challenge cup. If the children complete all the challenges - and collect all the coloured lollipop sticks - they are award a small prize and given a Happy Face certificate within celebration assembly on a Friday. The children are really enjoying having a range of challenges to work towards, and they're also enjoying taking pictures of one another completing the challenges - have a look at the great challenges they've completed independently, and the photographs we've taken of one another!

On the 1st of February, Athelstan school offically became a Thrive school. To celebrate and share the values of what being a Thrive school is, we invited our adults to come into the classroom and complete activities with us. We made friendship bracelets, created our own dreamcatchers, coloured some beautiful mindfullness colouring sheets, and worked together to complete Lego challenges. We all had a lovely afternoon working with our families.

The children in Naranja class performed a great class assembly. We showed our work, sang one of our favourite songs and even did a little bit of dancing like Gerald the Giraffe!

Our class really enjoyed reading with our buddies. We chose one of our favourite books to share, and we can't wait until we get to read with them again.

In DT we made our own felt! The children worked in pairs, teasing out wool and rolling it nice and flat - we found it tricky at first but the end results were fabulous!

We were very lucky to have a pantomime come and visit us at school. We watched a great performance of Aladdin, it was so much fun!

We enjoyed showing our families our classroom, and fantastic work. The adults helped us to make a maths game, and we had lots of fun playing it!

During Year 1's Orchard week we explored the outside space. We created houses for the wildlife that lives in the orchard, as well as made pictures using natural materials.

This morning we launched our topic Great and Ghastly Events. We looked at different time capsules and predicted what the event might be. After looking at all the capsules we voted for the most exciting on and the one we wanted to learn more about. We have decided the first great event we will learn about is the Titanic!
