Year 3 spent a lot of time learning in the Orchard this term. We began by mapping out key features of the Orchard on a grid and then describing the location of these features using coordinates.

We investigated how shadows were formed and what kind of objects form them in Science. We collected items from the Orchard to create shadows and made shadow art from them.

In art we went on a journey around the school, starting at the Orchard, and collected different items that interested us along the way. Once back in the classroom, we attached our found items to a stick using colouring wool, as record of a journey around school. This activity was inspired by the aborigines, who recorded their journeys in art form.

We ended the week by using the Orchard for inspiration to start our stories that we are writing in English. We used our senses to describe the setting of the story and our imagination to elaborate on what we could see, smell, hear and feel in the Orchard.
