We have had great fun learning all about measures. We have measured the length of objects around the classroom, the distance cars travelled down the guttering, made potions estimating how much the different contaners hold and found objects that were heavy and light.

This afternoon we began experimenting with felt making! It was a tricky process but the children were fabulous! They worked together well in partners and enjoyed the activity.

We had a great time watching the production of Aladdin in our school hall this afternoon. We loved joining in with singing, dancing and of course lots of cheering and booing!

As part of our topic this term we have been fascnated by the events of the Great Fire of London. We have completed some fantastic writing and mde some great art work.

This afternoon was our Open Afternoon where our grown ups had the opportunity to come into class and take part in lots of different activities with us. It was also a time where we were able to show them all of the wonderful work we have been doing in Year 1!

In Year One we were very excited to have a visit from the Year Five children.  The Year Five children have been paired up with our younger children to be their Reading Buddies.  In their pairs they read books to each other and the older children supported our chidlren with their reading.

In Year One this week children have been exploring our Orchard.  They have used natural resources to make miniture houses for bugs.  They have also worked in pairs to create a piece of natural art using the natural resources they found on the ground.

Today we had our launch for our Great and Ghastly Events topic. We explored time capsules that had been left in our classroom that gave us clues about different events that had happened. Once all the capsules had been investigated, the children decided they would like to learn more about the Titanic for the first part of our topic.

The children moved up into Year One a little earlier than usual this year.  They had two fabulous transition days in their new classroom before their summer holidays.  This was a wonderful opportunity for them to meet their teachers, explore their new indoor and outdoor classrooms and familiarise themselves with the rules and routines of Year One.

The children had great fun exploring their new outdoor area, playing with the water play outdoors, mixing wet sand and chalking on the floor.  Indoors they had the chance to play in the different areas of the classroom, use the large floor number square game and get messy in the Creative Area.  As a focus task we looked at art work inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe and Paul Klee as we will be thinking about these artists in September during Arts Weeks.  The children either painted or used pastel colours to add colour and shade to shape pictures which will form part of a new display in school.

A fabulous two days was had by all and we are looking forward to the children coming back in September.
