pdfAthelNandos Homework - Spring 2019

To launch our new topic on 'Homes and Buildings', we created our own structures using paper mache. We began by using paper spills to construct 3D shapes, then used paper mache to slowly build up the walls. Messy hands were certainly the order of the day!

To launch our new topic on 'Homes and Buildings', we walked into Sherburn-in-Elmet to investigate buildings in our local area. We saw modern buildings, with some houses still in the process of being built. We also saw older terraced houses, as well as buildings used for different purposes such as shops and restaurants. We finished our walk by looking at the different churches in Sherburn: the Methodist Church, St Joseph's Catholic Church and All Saints' Church. We came back to school feeling excited but with rather tired legs!

We started the week by creating maps of different areas of the orchard. We used symbols and keys to help us record this, then used our knowledge of coordinates to describe our maps. Next, we used our imaginations to transform the Orchard into a magical forest and create a character we could meet there. Back in the classroom we used our ideas to plan a story about a journey to a magical place. To end the week, we gathered items from the Orchard to create journey sticks.
