At Athelstan we are passionate about pupil voice and involving children in the organisation and decision making about their school to aide in our ongoing improvement. We have a very active school council who meet regularly in school, meet with other school councils across the STAR Alliance and ultimately make our school better.

Christmas 2017

We helped decorate the school Christmas tree.

We helped make games and posters for the Christmas Fair. We are raising money for new playground equipment. The games are a 100 square, Guess how many sweets in a jar, Guess Pudsey’s birthday and a Christmas Treasure hunt. The School Council helped run the games. We raised £ 36 and the Parents association have matched this amount so we have £78 to spend on new equipment

New School Council September 2017.

In September a new School council was elected by the children. They have already been very busy.

We helped run the bun sale to raise money for Children in Need. The children also came to school in non uniform and together we raised over £500 for this great cause.

Speakers School Council Award

The school council talked to the children about what would make their school better. The children came up with lots of different ideas. The school council decided that they wanted to improve playtimes by providing different healthy snacks and more equipment to play with. The council did a snack survey and had tasting sessions for the rest of school. They have bought a new trolley to store the snack in and a blackboard to show the snack options each day. Each term we will have different fruit depending on the season.

We made posters to advertise the new fruit trolley and encourage to throw away their rubbish in a bin.

We entered The Speakers School Council Award with our project and received a logo for our school.

Chair of Governors Meeting - March 2017

Children’s Voice Conference - November 2016

Four children from the School Council went to the first Children’s Voice conference at Harrogate. We took part in workshops and different activities and had a great day. The highlight of the day was listening to the multi-medal winning paralympian Kadeena Cox and seeing her Olympic medals
