Athelstan Community Primary School has been awarded lottery funding to further develop the schools Foundation Stage outdoor area. Awards for All Big Lottery grant of £8,839.00 was received which the school has used to provide a creative and explorative environment.

The area now incorporates natural elements which will help children gain a sense of freedom and will encourage them to explore their surroundings,through unstructured play. The area will be engaging and fun and will now provide opportunities to enable children to develop their communicative and social skills.

The outdoor environment is vital to develop healthy active lifestyles this funding will enable us, to exploit our children’s full potential, by maximising their exposure to recreational and explorative play.

The grant has funded:

A poly tunnel mound ,with climbing logs ,a clatter bridge , a jolly roger play ship to develop imagination and social interaction, a story telling area with mushroom seats and activity boards and panels for imagination and creativity and also a water play system with a shute.

This funding has allowed us to complete the substantial development of the Athelstan Community Primary School Outdoor Foundation area.

Headteacher Karen O’Donnell said “The school is very grateful for the support from the Awards for All Big Lottery Fund which has enabled us to complete the school’s vision for it’s Early Year’s provision. The Big Lottery Fund distributes half of the National Lottery good cause funding across the UK.The Fund aims to enable others to make real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.
