award parliamentary flag

Athe lstan Primary School has been building on its artistic success.

Parliament’s Education Department ran a competition for primary schools to mark both the anniversaries of the De Montfort Parliament and the signing of the Magna Carter. They asked schools to design a flag which represented their parliamentary constituency.  Our school held an internal completion asking all the children to design a flag. The school council then took the best ideas from each flag and created our final design which was submitted for judging. We were really proud to be chosen to represent the Selby and Ainsty constituency, but even prouder that our flag was chosen over all the other Yorkshire constituency flags to be the flag to represent the whole of Yorkshire. This means that our flag design will be made up into a real flag which will be flown both in Westminster Hall for the De Montfort celebrations and at Runnymede for the Magna Carter celebrations.

The picture shows our winning design flying outside parliament.
