  • In art Mrs Hayton's class have been learning about a famous artist called LS Lowry. We studied some of his work and looked carefully at the way he sketched people in his pieces. Afterwards we used different sketching pencils to draw people using his style.

  • As part of Orchard Week we carried out different maths challenges involving estimating, adding numbers and recording. The children had lots of fun finding different objects and using them to help with their maths. We saw lots of creatures when we were down there too! Once all the challenges were complete the children could make up their own challenge. They selected their own equipment and chose their own way of recording.

  • Thank you to everyone who attended the Y1-Y6 reading open morning today. We hope you found it useful. For those of you who couldn't make it, this is what was covered:

-Reading bookmarks were introduced. The bookmarks are there to help you think of questions to ask your child when reading with them at home and for adults (i.e. Parent helpers) to use in school. These will be attached to your child's planner by the end of the week and should stay attached to the planner so they are easily accessible for anyone reading with your child at home or school.

-Example reading activities were modelled/shared to give you a taste of how we teach reading in school.

-Parents/Guardians had an opportunity to use the bookmarks with their children and share a story/complete a reading activity together.

Please click pdfhere if you wish to view an example of how discussion, based on the bookmarks, can be recorded in the planner. The example is based on a child in KS1.

  • Thank you to everyone who came to the Reading Open Morning in Year 2. An explanation of what was covered can be found on the English page of the website. If you wish to view what was covered during the session in Year 2 specifically, please click pdfhere.

  • You have already been busy photographing yourselves with science around you! Take a look at these photographs of Finlay enjoying science while on holiday and William and Isobel discovering science at home with a magnetic induction hob. We look forward to seeing more of your selfies!

  • As part of the topic launch, Mrs Hayton's class located important landmarks and monuments on a tourist map of London. Afterwards, the children were given a blank map with only the river Thames marked on and they worked in pairs to add photographs of the monuments in the right place. We used the terms: north, south, east and west to describe the location of the places on the map.
