Some children may require equipment to help them with this i.e. writing equipment, number line, physical objects or just support them with the calculations in any way you can. It is supposed to be fun so please help children if they need it rather than put them off playing. The more they have success the more confident they will feel to have a go themselves. Hope you enjoy! Mrs Hayton

During our English work Mrs Turner's class created islands that we could have been washed up on for part of the story Katie Morag. Once we had made our islands we described them to each other then wrote a setting description based on the island we had built.

As part of Orchard Week we carried out different maths challenges involving estimating, adding numbers and recording. The children had lots of fun finding different objects and using them to help with their maths. We saw lots of creatures when we were down there too! Once all the challenges were complete the children could make up their own challenge. They selected their own equipment and chose their own way of recording.

As part of the topic launch, Mrs Hayton's class located important landmarks and monuments on a tourist map of London. Afterwards, the children were given a blank map with only the river Thames marked on and they worked in pairs to add photographs of the monuments in the right place. We used the terms: north, south, east and west to describe the location of the places on the map.

In art Mrs Hayton's class have been learning about a famous artist called LS Lowry. We studied some of his work and looked carefully at the way he sketched people in his pieces. Afterwards we used different sketching pencils to draw people using his style.
